This video shows Sunna during a severe generalized dystonic episode.
The episode affects her entire body — sustained muscle contractions force her arms inward, her legs into extension, and her neck into an abnormal posture. She is fully conscious but unable to control her movements.
To interrupt the episode, I administer Buccolam (midazolam) buccally. The medication is placed gently into the side of her mouth to be absorbed through the cheek.
Over the next few minutes, the dystonic contractions gradually reduce. The rigidity lessens. Her limbs slowly regain voluntary control.
By the end of the recording, the episode has resolved.
Sunna regains motor control and is once again able to move her body freely.
This is what recovery looks like.
