Baby’s eye “flicker” was sign of one in a million neurological condition

Posted on July 29, 2026July 29, 2026 By siggi

A baby from North Wales, UK, diagnosed with a one-in-a-million condition faces life-threatening episodes after his parents first noticed his eyes “flickering” at just two weeks old. Rupert Smith, who turns one this month, has alternating hemiplegia of childhood and now requires round-the-clock care after suffering seizures, paralysis and multiple emergencies. His family are fundraising for treatment and research, saying they are “on edge all the time” as they hope for a future cure.
